Sushi. It appears like such an easy gluten-free meal option, however it comes with so many concealed mistakes.
I go back and forth with it. When I initially went gluten-free in 2011 I relied greatly on the Japanese special, and the one roll at the one sushi dining establishment that I had actually vetted. Note: Consuming as a whole was quite boring during that time. I was afraid of everything.
Is sushi gluten free? As I found out the ropes of my new diet and was turned off a bit after a bad reaction at a brand-new dining establishment, I hardly ever ate sushi for a while. However after spending a week in Japan last fall, it fell back into favor with me. Actually, I think I simply chose what's for dinner tonight.
Back to those mistakes.
There's a lot more to consuming gluten-free sushi than avoiding soy sauce (but please do not eat the soy sauce). Gluten is concealed in everything from the sushi itself, to the sauces that top it, to the kick of heat we add to it.
